Sound Deconstruction

Sound Deconstruction

As we have decided on the genre and plot of our urban drama trailer, I have decided to have a look at the type of music and sound used within other urban drama films. I am going to look at the sound used within the trailer of 'ill Manors' which is 1.44 long.

This is the trailer:

0.01 to 0.10- seconds we hear an eerie piano sound which becomes louder building up tension for when the trailer begins as writing is show at this time, there is then a Knock sound effect over the top.
0.15- the music changes and it becomes louder with a beat begging to sound like the back in tune of a ramp, there is no lyrics said.
0.18- diegetic sound starts of two men talking which turns into shouting, as this is happening other scenes are shown while the shouting continues, the background music is still playing as well.
0.30- a voiceover starts of a man speaking which sounds slightly like rapping as well, the music is still playing in the background however the piano becomes more high pitched.
0.51- there is a thud sound effect where text appears on top of an establishing shot of motorways and background music stops.
0.53- diegetic get sound appears again of a man shouting to another with a gun to his throat.
0.56- text appears again and a different song begins to play which starts with a fast sound of violins, every time text appears a thud sound effect is used.
1.12- rapping starts saying 'oi you little rich boy' and smashing sound effects such as glass being smashed. There is also the thud sound effect again whenever violence occurs.
1.33- rapping stops smashing sound again and music quietens down as the title appears and turns into a swishing sound
1.38- as the credits glitch we hear the violins play again for the last few seconds as we are shown when it will be coming out.
1.44- trailer finishes and music stops.

By looking at the sound used within the film my group and I now know what sound is needed within our trailer. We know to include a type of rapping song and beat as well as a voiceover as we found this effective. We also established what sound effects to use such as slamming doors, gun shots, police sirens, smashing glass and others similar. This will improve our trailer as sound is such an important aspect to a trailer.
