Deconstruction of Costumes

Deconstruction of Costumes

I am going to look at some of the costumes which are worn in urban dramas films, this is so that our group will have an idea of costumes to include within our film opening.

Within this image from 8 Mile, we see the main character dressed in baggy jeans, hoodie, loose grey t-shirt and woolly hat.

In this next image taken from adulthood we see two of the main actors both in a hoodie and leather jackets.

Bullet Boy shows similar costumes by wearing grey sweatpants and hoodie, baggy jeans and denim jacket as well as a grey t-shirt, gold chain and bracelet.

From looking at the previous images I began to see a trend of grey coloured clothing, this is shown again within this clip from Anuvahood. The main actor in the middle is shown in a grey tracksuit while the others are in baggy genes and shorts as well as t-shirts. All the actors in this scene are also shown wearing trainers. One character is also shown with a gold chain around there neck.

Finally this image from the urban drama film Victim shows the actors in the film in a hoodie and snap back hat, as well as a gold watch.

From looking at a variety of different urban drama films I can identify a clear trend within the costumes worn within the films. I can see that the costumes mainly worn are baggy clothing consisting of tracksuits especially the hoodies. Some of the actors are also shown in hats and wearing jewellery like gold chains and bracelets depending on the character. The shoes usually wore in urban dramas are trainers, I also noticed a common colour used for the clothing is grey and that there are no brands of clothing on show. From identifying the common costumes worn I now have a clear idea on what to dress out actors up in for our film opening. I think we will pick a costume which has an element of grey as well as being quite baggy either jeans or sweatpants, they will have a hoodie maybe wearing a hat but will wear trainers.
