Title Deconstruction

Title Deconstruction

This task will involve me reviewing titles and timings in an urban drama film trailer. For this task I have chosen to look at the popular urban drama film 'Brotherhood' which came out this year.

My reason for creating this blog post is to give our group a better understanding of the placements of titles and the timings at which they occur in order to make our trailer as professional as possible.

Brotherhood trailer: 1 minute 48 seconds

0:14 - 'Lionsgate' production company intro is played. This is the main production company hence why it is played first.

0:15 - This is the less well known/ minor production company, 'unstoppable entertainment.' This is where we will place our production company which we have made.

0:58 - The film 'Brotherhood' is part of a trilogy of films including 'Kidulthood' and 'Adulthood'. This title links the film back to the first of the Trilogy, 'Kidulthood'.

The Titles from 1:04-1:10 are displayed with quick succession with faced paced shots between each of them. The titles when put together spell out the phrase 'IN THE END COMES BROTHERHOOD.' This is effective as it makes the viewer more attentive as they will have to read a new word each second keeping them intrigued.

1:19 - They are also adding credits at the end of the trailer for the artists in which created soundtracks for the film. This is effective as people who are fans of the famous artists such as 'Stormzy' may be interested in watching the film in order to hear his new song.

1:22 - 'IN CINEMAS AUGUST 29' tells the audience the exact date the film premiers in theaters.Furthermore at the bottom we see promotion for the film and production company, including the social media links for 'Lionsgate' and also the hashtag '#TheEnd' which is used on platforms such as twitter or facebook to create buzz around the movie and in order to get people to talk about it.
In conclusion, this task has allowed our group have an idea of how successful urban drama trailers look and their use of titles and timings. This will hopefully enable us to create effective titles and to allow us to appropriately use them in the correct situations as to grab the viewers attention.
