Deconstruction of Actors

Deconstruction of Actors

For this task I am going to be looking at actors used within Urban Drama films, I will look at a variety of films where I will find which actors we will need, how many and what look they need to have.
Some famous actors used in urban dramas consist of:
  • Samuel L. Jackson
  • Ice Cube
  • Morris Chesnutt
  • Tupac
  • Snoop Dogg
  • 50 Cent
  • Eminem
.
In this film which is 'Adulthood' these are the main characters, as we can see they are both multi-racial and wear similar clothing's such as hoodies and leather jackets with their heads shaved. They commonly are shown to be from a lower class back ground and escaping from there life.

Within 'Kidulthood' this is the main character and he is shown to multi-racial again and dresses in a tracksuit with his hood up. He is shown to be working class by his clothes and location.

Here is another example from '8 Mile', Eminem is the protagonist in this film wearing similar clothing from the image above however the clothes are baggier.

In 'Anuvahood' we can clearly see the main character set within this scene which is Kenneth, we can see this as he is sat at a higher level compared to his other gang members. In this gang we can see that there is 5 members with different races.

Here is another gang shown this one slightly bigger with 6 people, gangs usually vary from about 3 or more they are also multi-racial. The gang is shown to be violent due to the weapons and mask giving the impression of crime as well.

In 'Bullet Boy' we are shown the main character to be multi racial again, he is also shown to appears to be violent by his weapon which the common representation is for urban dramas. They character also reflects form where the originate from usually being 'The Hood'.

This image is taken from 'Trainspotting' where we see Renton the main character who is shown smoking, shaved head but in this case he is white subverting the common representations of the black culture commonly used within urban dramas. Renton is shown to be lower classed and lazy as well as addicted to drugs.

Due to Renton's friendship group (gang) he is involved in violence and crime common stereotypes for gangs.

By looking at the actors used in urban drama films my group and I now have a clear idea on who we are going to use for our trailers. It's helped us to identify how many actors are needed, what type of characters they need to play and right people for the roles. We are thinking of a multi-racial culture cast, our next steps are to ask the characters we have in mind and find out their responses.
