Typography Deconstruction
In this blog I am going to deconstruct various urban drama films' titles and the typography used in them. This will help my group and I find out different fonts, colours and styles that we could use for our own typography of our urban drama. The film 'KiDULTHOOD' is the first movie from the urban drama trilogy which consists of popular british films 'Adulthood' and 'Brotherhood'. The producers have purposely chosen this font as it is simplistic and straight to the point. The colour is white which is a very eye- catching and the fact that it is all in bold makes it easy for the viewer to read. The 'i' in 'kid' is the only lower case letter in the title which is very effective as it shows a play on words as it is a mistake a kid would make and this already foreshadows the events happening in the film.
The movie Brotherhood is the third of the trilogy created by Noel Clarke. This films typography is very similar to that of 'Kidulthood' due to the same simplistic font being used. The use of the colour white for the title is effective as it is more visible on darker backgrounds, which are commonly used in urban drama films.
The British urban drama film 'SHANK'uses an extremely effective font due to factors such as colour, size, boldness. The fact that the colour of the title is red, suggests that there could be a deeper meaning for this. The colour red could symbolise blood which in-turn relates to violence which is a common convention seen in urban drama films. The bold letters are also a common recurrence in the typography of urban drama films.
